Fall Women's Retreat

This year we are excited to welcome a special guest speaker, Sarah Ivill. Here's a letter from Sarah introducing herself and the topic she'll be teaching on:

Dear CBC Women,

I'm really looking forward to being with you all in September to study God's word, pray, and enjoy fellowship with each other. I hope it will be a good time for all of us to retreat from our routines in order to gain a better perspective, an eternal one. Speaking of routines, I spend my days homeschooling my four children ranging in age from seventeen to seven. I am also active in women's ministry at my church, teaching women's Bible study, as well as writing for various publishers and ministries, and speaking at events. The highlight of my summer was breaking out of routines, and getting away with my husband to celebrate our twentieth anniversary in the mountains.

If you're anything like me, it's easy to feel like we're never enough. For many of us this started when we were young. We may have felt like we never measured up to the expectations of our parents, coaches, teachers, other leaders, or even those we had for ourselves. Sadly, we often bring this feeling with us into adulthood, feeling like we are failing in one way or another. We wonder if we're good enough at our careers. We worry that we're not doing enough as a wife or a mother. We are concerned that we have failed to take care of our parents adequately. Too often we pursue a certain appearance and certain achievements in order to be enough, either in our own eyes, or another's. The problem is that we're not satisfied or secure. How wonderful, then, that there is a person in whom true satisfaction, security, and significance is found. In Christ, we will find rest for our weary souls. We will find that He is enough, and therefore, because we are united to Christ by faith, we are enough too.

I look forward to seeing you soon!

Warmly in Christ,

Sarah

Accommodations

We are returning to Five Star Retreat this year. Their facility is an upscale lodge that provides us with great opportunities to fellowship and hang out together.

Most of the sleeping areas have twin bunk beds. Please indicate when you register if you are unable to climb stairs, sleep in a top bunk, or have medical reasons you need one of the few semi-private rooms. We will try our best to accommodate all these requests.

You can view pictures of the lodge at fivestarretreat.com.

Schedule

Official check-in on Friday will begin at 4:00pm, but you are welcome to arrive anytime that day and enjoy the activities! We will end on Sunday morning around 11:00am.

Friday night we will have dinner, a short session, fellowship, and fun. Following our session, you can sit around and chat, play a board game, work on a puzzle, go to bed early, or go to bed late.

Saturday we will have three more sessions and free time in the afternoon. Each session will include a testimony, worship, and small group time, where we will dig into the Word and discuss what we are learning.

During free time there is hiking, kayaking and paddle boats on the lake, a fire pit, and plenty of board games and puzzles. You also can feel free to take a nap!!

Sunday morning we will sleep in, have breakfast together, clean and pack up, and then head home.

Sarah will be teaching from her book Never Enough at the retreat, and your registration fee includes a copy of the book. From her website:

Let’s admit it, we want to be beautiful and successful. But could these marks of being an empowered woman actually be idols requiring our slavish devotion? If you have struggled with this, you probably know the feeling that you will never be pretty or perfect enough. In Never Enough, Sarah Ivill discusses issues related to body image and performance as she shares about her past addiction to thinness and fitness. In the process, she confronts five common lies women of all ages fall prey to and points us back to our acceptance in Christ, where we find the true solution to our pursuit of beauty and success.

Five lies we are prone to believe:

  • My ways are better than God’s ways, and my wisdom is better than His wisdom.
  • I have to look like “her” in order to be beautiful.
  • My worth is defined by whether or not a man loves me.
  • My significance is based on my success as defined by my superiors.
  • If I had what “she” has, I would be more satisfied than I am now.
