Leadership Selection

Our annual congregational meeting is scheduled for Sunday, November 17, 2024. Names of the men being recommended for elder or deacon are listed below. Members should review the Biblical elder/deacon qualifications and bring any potentially disqualifying information to the elder board as soon as possible.

The final slate of elders and deacons to be voted on will be published on November 10.

Leadership Selection Process Timeline


  • August 11/18 - Announcement of Congregational Meeting Date

"The date of the annual meeting shall be publicly announced at two regular Sunday morning services prior to the date of the meeting.”


  • August 20 - Deadline for elder/deacon nominations

"Members will be called upon to recommend to the elders any man believed to be worthy of consideration for the office of elder/deacon and to give their reasons for such belief."


  • September 13 - Names of recommended men published on OneChurch and website

 "The names of these men shall be published to all members at least two months prior to the annual congregational meeting. Members shall be asked to prayerfully consider the qualifications of these men. Members should bring any potentially disqualifying information to the attention of the elders within two weeks of publication of the names."


  • November 10 - Final slate of elders and deacons will be published

"Considering those recommendations, the elders shall unanimously recommend qualified men to be considered for the office of elder/deacon."


  • November 17 - Congregational Meeting and Vote to Affirm Elders and Deacons

"Voting and affirmation privileges shall be given to all members of the church 20 years of age and older. Proxy votes will be allowed when approved by the elders.”


Deacon Qualifications

  • Dignified (1 Tim. 3:8)
  • Not Double-Tongued (1 Tim. 3:8)
  • Not addicted to much wine (1 Tim. 3:8)
  • Not greedy for dishonest gain (1 Tim. 3:8)
  • Hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience (1 Tim. 3:9)
  • Blameless when tested (1 Tim. 3:10)
  • A wife who is dignified, not a slanderer, sober-minded, and faithful in all things (1 Tim. 3:11)
  • Devoted to his wife; one-woman man (1 Tim. 3:12)
  • Manages children and household well (1 Tim. 3:12)


Elder Qualifications

  • Above Reproach (Titus 1:6, 7; 1 Tim. 3:2)
  • Devoted to his wife; one-woman man (Titus 1:6; 1 Tim. 3:2)
  • Have submissive children, though not perfect (Titus 1:6; 1 Tim. 3:4-5)
  • A faithful Steward (Titus 1:7)
  • Humble - not arrogant (Titus 1:7)
  • Gentle - not quick-tempered (Titus 1:7; 1 Tim. 3:3)
  • Sober - not a drunkard or glutton (Titus 1:7; 1 Tim. 3:3)
  • Peaceful - not violent (Titus 1:7; 1 Tim. 3:3)
  • Have financial integrity - not greedy for gain (Titus 1:7; 1 Tim. 3:3; 1 Peter 5:3)
  • Hospitable (Titus 1:8; 1 Tim. 3:2)
  • Lover of good (Titus 1:8)
  • Self-controlled (Titus 1:8; 1 Tim. 3:2)
  • Upright (Titus 1:8)
  • Holy (Titus 1:8)
  • Disciplined (Titus 1:8)
  • Able to teach (Titus 1:9; 1 Tim. 3:2)
  • Spiritually mature (1 Tim. 3:6)
  • Respectable (1 Tim. 3:7)

From our church bylaws (article 5, section 1 and section 2):

"Men who serve as elders must be active members of the church in good standing. They shall be chosen according to biblical standards (1 Timothy 3:1-12 and Titus 1:6-9). Members will be called upon to recommend to the elders any man believed to be worthy of consideration for the office and to give their reasons for such belief. Considering those recommendations, the elders shall unanimously recommend qualified men to be considered for the office of elder. The names of these men shall be published to all members at least two months prior to the annual congregational meeting. Members shall be asked to prayerfully consider the qualifications of these men. Members should bring any potentially disqualifying information to the attention of the elders within two weeks of publication of the names. The final slate of elders shall be published to the members at least one week prior to the annual congregational meeting for final selection by ballot at the meeting."


"Men who serve as deacons must be active members of the Church in good standing. According to the prototype of deacon ministry in Acts 6, they are to serve under the direction of and in assistance to the elders. They shall be chosen according to biblical standards (1 Timothy 3:1-12 and Titus 1:6-9). Members will be called upon to recommend to the elders any man believed to be worthy of consideration for the office and to give their reasons for such belief. Considering these recommendations, the elders shall unanimously recommend qualified men to be considered for the office of deacon. The names of these men shall be published to all members at least two months prior to the annual congregational meeting. Members shall be asked to prayerfully consider the qualifications of these men. Members should bring any potentially disqualifying information to the attention of the elders within two weeks of publication of the names. The final slate of deacons shall be published to the members at least one week prior to the annual congregational meeting for final selection by ballot at the meeting. "
